Hello all and welcome to my Animal Crossing review and guide, second part. Today I am going to tackle two main topics in the everyday activities on the island: fishing and catching bugs.
So let’s start with the fishing!
Fishing

Of course one of the main things you will want to do if you play Animal Crossing is catching them all and donating it to the museum. Blathers will happily take your donation and also tell you some interesting facts about the animal.

Fishes can be caught in the sea, rivers and ponds. There are different types of fishes, as well as different months and time of the day in which you have the possibility to find them.

If the time frame is a bit short for you, you might want to catch some manila clams and make some fishing bait out of it. That will not guarantee you will catch the desired fish, but it will give you more chances of it.

So take your shovel, find those spots in the sand where air comes out and get those clams!
Meeting CJ
C.J, a fish loving beaver, is the newest host of the Fishing Tourney, which is an annual event that occurs every third Saturday during certain months of the year.

You can test your skills by seeing how much fish you can catch in 3 minutes. I have tested it with and without bait, but you generally get the around 7-10 fishes in a round.
The fish can be sold to CJ and he will pay you more than Tommy and Timmy… after all, he is a fish influencer! The points can be exchanged for different fishing items and decorative items.
Generally you can also find CJ in your town once in a while, where you can only sell the fish to him and get a collectable fish decoration (you will have to give him 3 times the desired fish, though).

Bugs

Personally, I am more into catching the bugs in Animal Crossing and Flick, the ‘bug character’, is cooler in all ways. Additionally, I am more lucky in making money with bugs rather than fishes, so you get where I am heading.

The same as with the fish, bugs can be found all over the island at different months and different times of year. You can donate your catches to the museum, but mind that Blathers hates bugs so he will be always happier if you are not curious about the additional information and tell him you simply do not have time.
Flick

Flick is some hind of emo rocker with deep thoughts about metamorphosis, one that happens to like and collect bugs. You can sell him your catches at extra price, and also get a collectable by giving 3 of the same species. He can be found once in a while in your town… just look for him!
Making Money!

One of the best way to make money is by catching expensive bugs. While there is a promise of a special tarantula island out there, I never seem to get it no matter how much I make Dodo blush.

Nevertheless, there is some good news: you can actually create your own tarantula farm. The drawback is that you will get some water bugs especially in April, but you can easily release those.

I also heard about the tip of creating some ground patters and just jumping inside when a tarantula follows you, but that from my point of view is a waste of time. You will take longer and the risk of being bitten while running away is high. Additionally, in the star ground formation, tarantula can still find a way inside after rotating a few times… so if you do not catch it in the first 5-10 seconds… you are bitten again!
So how do you make your island hold tarantulas only? Simple: remove all trees (insects can grow inside it), roots (insects can grow on it), flowers (insects can grow on it, again), rocks (insects can grow under it)… just really all! You can then dump them on the beach!

And voila – now the only thing that can be generated in the game are tarantula or… water bugs, if you happen to have a river feature on the island. You can do that how many times you need… and get rich in the process!
